Waiting for the tide (1).jpg

I love the simplicity of this shot that came when we made a decision to visit a few places in North Norfolk, this being Hunstanton Beach. Here we found the ideal spot for drying the feet and putting the shoes back on before heading for a well-deserved drink.

My Love of the Sea

I have lived most of my life within a few miles of the sea. Warm memories of spending evenings on Hillhead Beach near Stubbington Hampshire still remain with me today. We would meet neighbours in the summer months for dinner on the beach, playing and swimming until the sun went down. Though I was only probably 10 years old at the time, those memories are alive as if it was yesterday. Whatever time of year you walk along the coastline there is always a feeling of wellbeing and an injection of life. I don't think there are many places that you seem to always remember in as much detail as your summer days on the beach. I am now significantly older than 10 and I have had the fun of being able to relive my childhood by sharing the beach with my daughter, using her as an excuse to run the waves and make the biggest sandcastles.

Cromer Pier... now there is something about Cromer, I'm not sure what, but it seems to drive me to visit Cromer more times than most. I prefer Cromer to Southwold, and I know most will disagree with me, but I think its due to how quiet it can be. I am sure that will soon change now we are all starting to take vacations closer to home.

At Lowestoft Pier there is not much left to see, but the beach is spectacular. Sand as far as the eye can see, and so quiet even over the summer, giving you plenty of room to enjoy the views.

The two shots to the right are of Southwold Pier, taken on the same visit. This was early morning as the dawn was breaking. I was surprised to see a few brave individuals swimming at 6am, but I suppose they look at me to be as crazy as them! Photographers are a strange breed; when I looked around there must have been six of us all waiting in readiness of

what the dawn would bring.

Are you of the age who remembers the Helter Skelter? I am, and due to this could not help but take this shot. At the time I thought the sky would distract from the main attraction in this photo, however I think the dull English weather helped to enhance and highlight the slide. This photo was taken looking at Brighton Pier.

sun set Lee on the Solent.jpg

This was taken on Lee-on-the-Solent beach looking towards Hill Head. Though I took this some years ago on a small pocket camera, I spent ages waiting to frame my memories of this beach as a child. Sun setting, boats sailing, people walking and swimming; all under the warm glow of the autumn sunset.
